Apigee – a powerful platform for API management, monitoring and analytics that joined Google in 2016 and is a popular solution for high-volume data exchange systems
Application programming interfaces (APIs) are required for software (software) to interact with other software. Thus, they are by definition a system integration technology.
Apigee consists of the following main components
- Apigee Services: APIs we use to create, manage, and deploy services.
- Apigee Runtime: A set of Kubernetes cluster container services supported by Google. All API traffic passes through these services and is processed by them.
Additionally, Apigee uses other components, including:
- GCP services: provide identity management, logging, analytics, metrics display and project management functions.
- Internal Services: Used by your applications to provide runtime access to your APIs.
Apigee can be deployed in two types:
- Apigee: a SaaS version in which Google fully supports the environment, allowing us to concentrate on creating services and defining APIs for these services.
- Apigee Hybrid: A hybrid version consisting of a platform installed locally or in the cloud provider of your choice and a platform running in the Apigee cloud. In this model, API traffic and data are limited to the limits approved by your enterprise.
