A SAN greatly simplifies database storage on a disk array, tape library, backup device, servers and file and data storage systems, etc. and allows solving a wide range of problems related to the organization of information storage at large and medium-sized enterprises. The following protocols are used here for the organization of network data storage systems:

  • Fiber Channel (FC) is a special block protocol that is characterized by high performance.
  • The issue is a SCSI packet transfer protocol over traditional IP networks that has the functional advantages of FC at an affordable price.
  • A data storage system through consolidation of storage devices, with a direct connection to a data transmission network (Network Attached Storage – NAS).

With this method of organizing data storage systems, the following protocols are used by the server for storing files:

  • NFS is a standard file access protocol for UNIX systems.
  • CIFS is a standard protocol for Windows systems.
  • A data storage system by consolidating on storage devices (for example, disk arrays, tape library and other data backup and storage systems) with a direct connection to a file storage server.
