What is Gemini?

Gemini in Google Workspace

The world is experiencing a boom in AI technologies, and Google is actively participating, offering modern solutions called Gemini.

What is Gemini?

Gemini is Google’s latest multimodal artificial intelligence models capable of processing text, images, audio, and video to perform tasks such as content generation, translation, coding, and analysis.

Types of Gemini:

Gemini solutions are divided into four main groups:

  1. Gemini Chat: A popular AI chat for web search, information analysis, image generation, code, and more.
  2. Gemini in Google Workspace: Integrated into Workspace apps (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, etc.) AI tool for generating text, images, presentations, spreadsheets, videos, and data analysis from multiple sources. Starting in early 2025, Gemini functionality will be included by default in all Google Workspace business licenses (except Individual). There is also a personal Google ONE AI Premium subscription with Gemini and 2 TB of storage, but without business features.
  3. Gemini for Google Cloud: AI assistant for developers which includes:
    • Gemini Code Assist: Code writing assistance.
    • Gemini in Databases, BigQuery, Looker: Systematization, analytics and data visualization.
    • Gemini Cloud Assist & Security: Support in setting up cloud infrastructure and cybersecurity.
  4. Gemini API: Allows developers to integrate Gemini models into their own applications via Vertex AI to create multimodal AI solutions.

Gemini features in Google Workspace:

  • Gmail: Helps generate responses, compose new letters, find and analyze information in mail.
  • Docs: Generates texts (articles, summaries), suggests ideas, changes the style of the text (abbreviations, details, formality), summarizes documents, creates images based on the description.
  • Chat: Creates short summaries of conversations.
  • Sheets: Generates tables based on an idea, analyzes data, helps create formulas.
  • Slides: Creates slides with text and graphics, generates images, removes image backgrounds.
  • Meet: Generates subtitles with real-time translation, creates automatic meeting summaries (in English for now).
  • Vids: Automatically generates an initial video project on request.
  • NotebookLM: A new tool for deep analysis of up to 300 sources (documents, web pages, videos, audio), providing conclusions, insights, and even generating audio discussions based on the sources. Available in Workspace licenses with Gemini.

Cost and Availability:

Starting in early 2025, Gemini is included with most Google Workspace business licenses at no additional charge, replacing the previous separate subscription.

Data Protection:

Google emphasizes privacy: Workspace users’ data is not used to train Gemini models outside their domain without permission, is not sold, or used for advertising. Gemini adheres to Workspace security settings and is certified (SOC, ISO, HIPAA).

Gemini’s future:

Google continues to develop Gemini, improving language understanding, accuracy, creativity, and expanding integrations and language support to make AI even more useful.
